The Integrative Blood Pressure Control (IBPC) Laboratory is a research group at Virginia Commonwealth University dedicated to understanding how aging and changing hormone levels affect blood pressure regulation. We study the interplay between testosterone, the nervous system, and the blood vessels and kidneys that together control blood pressure, with the goal of explaining why cardiovascular risk changes as hormone levels shift across the lifespan.

Our work combines observational studies with controlled hormone manipulation to isolate cause from correlation, including research into how androgen deprivation therapy in men with prostate cancer affects neural control of blood pressure and kidney function. We collaborate widely, including as part of the Cardiovascular Collective, and are committed to training the next generation of physiologists alongside our research.
